Mounted my 80lb minn kota maxxum 24v trolling motor Saturday night and just a quick playing around with it not sure it is right. I know the trolling motor is good was hooked up when I bought it and everything worked. When I check the internet for wiring diagram it simply has the 2 main wires coming off trolling motor, 1 positive and 1 negative and they are connected to the 2 batteries that are linked to create a 24 volt system. ![Fortrex Fortrex](/uploads/1/2/5/6/125675744/769223496.png)
I get all that, where my problem lies is from the plug on the boat to the batteries the plug is a 3 terminal plug and there are 2 main wires coming off the trolling that hooked to the plug (the guy took plug for his new trolling motor) and a 3rd smaller wire that has a small 3 hole plug on it, assume that if for a depth finder or some other attacthment. I pulled the female end of plug that is mounted in the boat there is a black wire (obviously the ground), a red wire with black stripe and a red wire with blue stripe. Each of the red wires has an identical circuit breaker on them. I hooked the red (power) wire off the trolling motor to the red wire with black stripe.
All I can figure is the 2 power wires in the boat are if there is a 36volt system used since the boat is 19.5' long ???? I am going to keep looking into finding something on the internet to see if I can find an actual wiring diagram, the ones I have found so far are just a 2 wire system for both a 24 volt and a 36 volt.
Just wanted to know if anybody has a clue as to the why the 2 power wires ??? I really want to get this trolling motor 100% by the weekend, I have all ready missed the best chance of the kid getting a big walleye in the D river. really don't want to miss anymore of it.
